We have sent an e:Mail to journalists and the 3 party leaders with the following questions:
- Since the Department of Health letter states, quite correctly, that future policy decisions are a matter for the incoming Government, we would like to know specifically where each of you stands regarding the almost non-existent uptake of NICE Guidelines (CG72) by NHS Trusts as well as the dire lack of NHS services for adults with ADHD in the UK, and the resulting social implications of this (see attached Petition Summary of Supporting Evidence). As a reminder, 1 to 3 million adults in the UK are not able to live to their fullest potential and are being discriminated against while NHS commissioners are dragging their feet over implementing the NICE Guidelines (CG72, published 2008, see attached) for assessing and treating ADHD.
- Since the Government has stated in the past that 'local service provision is a matter for individual PCTs' (see attached Summary of Evidence, page 12) while also acknowledging that 'lack of local ownership is a major difficulty in NICE Guidance' (Summary of Evidence, page 13), would each of you be prepared to specifically explain whether or not you would help ensure that the NICE Guidelines (CG72) are implemented and supported locally when a new Government has been formed? This is an important question for all of us at AADD-UK because our direct experience tells us that local involvement is just another bureaucratic tangle and not a true means for getting local services improved.
- Is there any point to having e-petitions on the 10 Downing Street website, other than as a public relations exercise, since ours which was submitted with 1,853 signatures was treated with complete indifference? Also, since the 10 Downing Street website says that '[e]very person who signs such a petition will receive an email detailing the Government's response to the issues raised' we are left wondering if this means that all 1,853 signatories will also receive a copy of the Department of Health letter. A letter that does not address the issues raised by our petition, but does exposes the indifferent attitude of the Prime Minister’s office towards the petition process. If the signatories are not going to receive an email with the Government’s response, why not?
