    It’s all about funding,
    I think it’s a crime,
    So many suffering,
    They don’t have the time.

Service provisions are not in place,
Not only unlawful but I feel a disgrace.

    The disorders been recognized,
    Statistics all show,
When needs do get seen to,
    Finances will grow.

Millions of pounds a year are being lost,
But much more important than financial cost,
Millions are suffering, resources aren’t there,
To support these adults so desperate for care.

We have raised the following petition on the Downing Street website:

    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/adhdadults

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure that NHS service provisions and funding arrangements for services for adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are reviewed and revised urgently.

ADHD is common with 3 to 4% of all adults affected. Undiagnosed ADHD leads to academic failure, substance abuse, criminal activity, disrupted family/social relationships, unemployment/work problems, & poor mental health. Adults are diagnosed with anxiety/depression without recognition of ADHD so treatments are inadequate & deplete mental health budgets. Millions of pounds a year are lost from work- under-achievement & millions more are spent on associated problems like imprisonment, substance abuse, & unemployment.

NICE recommends provision of diagnoses, psychological support, work & social help but implementation is either slow or absent. The few current adult ADHD services provide less than recommended minimum due to inadequate funds. It’s certain too that demand will outstrip current capacity. Thus, we ask the Prime Minister to review current funding arrangements for adult ADHD, & to provide dedicated funding to ensure care complies with NICE & national priorities.

We have raised over 500 names in just over a week which ensures that the petition will be looked at (a huge thank you to those who have already signed) but we are now striving to at least double that amount (even treble if we can) as the more names we have, the more the Government will take notice. If you haven't already signed, please show your support and click on the above link to sign and pass on to as many people as you can and ask them to support us with their signature too. You will receive a confirmation e:Mail from Number10 and must click on link in e:Mail to add your name to petition.

Just to remind you of the final words of the video at the bottom of our home page:

... the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do!

    March 2009

The UK Adult ADHD Network (Chairman Professor Philip Asherson) is a professional body that aims to support the development of clinical services for adults with ADHD in the UK. The Network has been established in response to the increased awareness of ADHD within adult mental health and the increasing number of new clinics being established across the UK.

The first meeting of the UK Adult ADHD Network occurred on Friday 20 March 2009 at the Royal College of Physicians. There were 140 registered attendees who came from all parts of the UK, and all had an interest in adult ADHD.

Susan Dunn Morua represented the Bristol Adult ADHD Support Group and AADD-UK. The attendees listened to a series of talks and panel discussions about establishing adult ADHD services ranging from the NICE Guidelines through diagnostic and treatment protocols, transitional services, support groups, and examples of regional services.
