Some diagnostic tools:
Please note that this is only placed here for informational purposes. Only a trained professional can assess and diagnose ADHD.
There are several tools for diagnosing adult adhd which are based upon the DSM-IV criteria, unfortunately most of them (almost all of the ones named after Doctors) are not available for free download, but here are two that are sometimes used for assessing for adult adhd and are actually available for free.
1. The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom checklist. This tool is used as a starting point by some clinicians.
It can be downloaded here: http://www.med.nyu.edu/psych/assets/adhdscreen18.pdf
2. The Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS). It can be downloaded here: http://168.144.150.122/Wender%20Utah%20Rating%20Scale%20checklist.pdf
There are many other tests that your doctor may use including the following (free versions don't appear to be available):
1. Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). This tool has 6 verbal subtests called Information, Comprehension, Arithmetic, Digit Span, Similarities, and Vocabulary. There are also five performance subtests called Picture Arrangement, Picture Completion, Block Design, Object Assembly, and Digital Symbol. These tests will help your doctor determine your thinking processes and how you deal with your environment.
2. Wechsler Memory Scale 3rd Edition (WMS-III). This tool will help your doctor assess your immediate and delayed auditory memory, your immediate and delayed visual memory, general memory, and working memory.
NOTE: This is just a sampling of tools that your doctor may use, in the interests of brevity, we haven't included all of them.
